Installation Notes for S3000i
GPS Vehicle Tracking Unit with Internal Antenna
Install Guide Updates
Your new S3000i tracker is equipped with an Internal GPS antenna and an internal cellular antenna. In most cases, you will experience good coverage without needing to connect an external antenna.
If the tracker is placed in a location where it is blocked from satellite signals by metal, then you may need to attach an external GPS antenna to get reliable performance. Most vehicles have dashboards made primarily of plastic which is transparent to radio waves and the tracker will receive a good signal even while tucked well under the dash.
Once you have connected the power cable and made any optional interface connections required (like starter disable), plug in the system connector to the tracker.
The indicator light should start up in red, then cycle through to blue within a minute or so. If the tracker's internal battery has been run down, then it may take 10 - 15 minutes to charge the internal battery and get a blue light.
If the light does not come on at all, the vehicle battery voltage may be too low. It needs to be 11.5V or higher. Starting the vehicle should bring the voltage up.
A solid blue light means that the tracker has not yet established a cellular connection nor a GPS fix. Once a cellular connection is established, the light will blinking blue. This typically requires less than a minute in a good coverage area.
The light will turn green once a GPS fix is achieved. A solid green light indicates that GPS coverage is good, but no cellular connection exist. A blinking green light means both cellular and GPS signals are good and the unit is ready to be tested with a Locate request to confirm that it works. Any optional items like starter disable should also be tested before considering the installation to be complete.
It is important that the vehicle be out of doors so that the GPS satellite signal has maximum potential reception.
In most cases, the start up sequence will take no more than a minute or two. In the case of a low internal battery, low vehicle voltage, and/or poor reception, this may as long as 10 - 15 minutes.
If the location of the tracker is blocked by too much metal and a blinking blue light persists, it may be necessary to add an external antenna and place it in a good location like an exterior surface facing upwards, or hidden in the A-pillar. You can remove the black antenna connector cap and plug in the 3-1000-2 GPS Antenna with SMB connector.
